The Art of the Edit: Helping Stories Flourish

Manuscript Critique

If your manuscript is in the early or middle stages and you want honest, big-picture feedback before investing in a full edit, this is where to start. I read your entire manuscript and deliver a written editorial letter of 8–15 pages covering the strengths and weaknesses of your plot, characters, worldbuilding, pacing, voice, and structure. I also address general thoughts on syntax and readability where relevant.

Vintage Typewriter
Line Editing

A focused sentence-level pass through your manuscript targeting word choice, syntax, and readability. I leave inline edits and comments in tracked changes, prioritizing conciseness, clarity, repetition, cohesion, and flow. This service is ideal for manuscripts that are structurally sound but need polishing at the prose level.

Developmental Editing

A comprehensive service where I go through your manuscript, leaving occasional inline edits and frequent inline comments targeting prose clarity and flow, sentence-level readability, redundancy, pacing at the paragraph and chapter level, dialogue sharpness, and overall narrative cohesion. I also flag larger narrative or structural concerns in the comments where relevant. At the end of the project I deliver an 8–15 page editorial letter covering major and minor issues.

ABOUT

I'm a Junior Literary Agent at Booker Albert Literary and a freelance editor with 3+ years in the publishing industry. I hold a BA in Professional Writing and have worked across both sides of the publishing process—from internships at ArtHouse Literary and the Christian Indie Publishing Association, to managing query submissions and coordinating manuscript evaluations at the agency level.

I'm a judge for both the Editor's Choice Contest and the FictionFive Contest, and I work within the Chicago Manual of Style.

I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and an editor with the Christian Editors Connection (CEC).

I edit with a straightforward, dialed-in style—I'll tell you what's working and what isn't, and I'm not afraid to do either. My goal is always to preserve your voice while making your manuscript the strongest version of itself.

Rebecca provided the BEST beta read I have ever received! Not to mention, she also critiqued my 35K word novel in record time. Her feedback was positive, yet constructive. She gave me the EXACT feedback I needed to get my book to the polished level I knew it could be. I wish I could give her a ten-star rating instead of five!

Rebecca is very reliable and always punctual with deadlines. Her work is accurate, and she shows a strong ability to understand the task requirements clearly. Communication is smooth, and she is receptive to our feedback, incorporating it thoughtfully into the output. Her writing skills are excellent.
